Here is the process followed in BIMAR when a research-development requirement is came up. According to this, firstly the problem definition of the case is made, then the solutions are researched. When required specialty is not exist in company or there is a risk to carry on the project fit to schedule and budget, the joining forces with external parts is made. 

There was joining forces with Computer Engineering and Industrial Engineering  sections of Izmir’s local universities or another technology consultancy companies.
